A wild relative of the blueberry, huckleberries have a similar flavor, but more complex, with tart and musky notes. Each of these huckleberries has been foraged for and sustainably hand-picked. The sweetest huckleberry variety, violet-black huckleberries are perfect in desserts and pair exceptionally well with salmon and game meats.
We estimate that there are approximately 2 ½ - 3 cups of huckleberries in a pound.
Store frozen wild huckleberries in your freezer until you are ready to use them.
Store fresh huckleberries in a covered container in your refrigerator. You can freeze them on a sheet tray and then pack them in a freezer bag for long term storage.
7-14 days fresh, up to a year frozen.
RECIPES & TIPS
Huckleberries excel as a treasured ingredient in desserts and beverages, particularly those featuring cream, ginger, lemon, almonds, apples, pears, cinnamon and/or chocolate. Try them as a garnish for panna cotta and custards or as an ingredient in cakes, muffins, and other baked goods as well as sorbets and ice cream.
They can also be pureed and reduced (often with other ingredients like red wine) to make sauces for desserts and savory foods like salmon, squab, foie gras, wild boar, venison, or rabbit.
