Price of Vegetables - How Much Do They Cost?

In the UK, vegetable prices in October 2026 vary considerably depending on the shopping location and type of produce. Wholesale broccoli ranges from about £3.16 to £6.68 per kilogram, while retail store prices tend to be higher, between £5.90 and £8.49 per kilogram. Budget supermarkets offer packs of carrots for roughly 44p to 65p, and potatoes cost between £0.80 and £1.36 per pack, depending on the retailer.

If you're hunting for bargains, prices start from 44p for carrots, 75p for cabbage, 97p for cauliflower, and £1.75 for butternut squash according to recent UK price comparisons. On the other hand, organic and premium-quality vegetables carry a higher price tag. For example, English cherry vine tomatoes cost £5.95 for 250g, while broccoli heads are around £3.50 at some shops.

I buy vegetables

I often purchase vegetables from local markets and farms throughout the UK, especially during October’s harvest period. Fresh, locally sourced produce not only tastes better but supports sustainable agriculture. Many vendors offer seasonal favorites like root vegetables, leafy greens, and squashes.

Some farms advertise: “Freshly picked carrots and potatoes available this week, perfect for autumn stews,” while others promote: “Organic kale and spinach from our local greenhouse, harvested daily.” These announcements help shoppers access quality vegetables straight from growers, fostering community connections and ensuring peak freshness.

Purchase of vegetables

October 2026 brings a broad selection of vegetables to the UK market, with prices varying by variety and season. Root crops like turnips wholesale at about £3.20 per kilogram, maintaining stability over the past year. Seasonal produce such as pumpkins, squash, and gourds are priced around £0.86 per kilogram, reflecting a 21.9% rise compared to last year.

Leafy greens including kale and Swiss chard, along with root vegetables like beets and carrots, remain in season. The record-breaking hot summer in 2026 impacted crop yields, which may affect availability and pricing in the coming months.
